Afghan-Graveyard of Empires

Why Afghan is called Graveyard of Empires?
Due to its geographical location which has Hindu Kush mountains passing through its region along with its physical terrain, it was very difficult for many empires to conquer and govern it. Many empires from Persians to Britain/Russia have tried to control and have failed. This place exactly located in central Asia connecting Middle East with other parts of Asia has faced many invasions and wars. Britain wanted to conquer it just to use it as a route between India to Britain. But due to its cold war with Russia it was forced to give Independence to Afghan. Currently US trying to control Taliban in this region is also seeing some fall back during Obama Period.

Who Coined the Term "Graveyard of Empires"? Not Known

Opinion:
Many rulers who tried to conquer India to exploit it resources has found Afghan as a strategic place as India is surrounded by Sea and Great Himalayas on other sides. Once the rulers conquer North Western parts of India their influence passes well into India making it weaker in Afghan. Which was utilized by other empires to conquer it.
